I cannot believe we are into the Week 6 of the One Room Challenge. The event organized by Linda Weinstein and celebrating its 10th anniversary this year! Our kitchen renovation is in its full force, and we seem to be a little behind on the schedule. This is not a big of a surprise to us, considering the still ongoing pandemic and supply challenges.
If you missed our first post, you can find it here.
Kitchen renovations Progress report – Week 6
This is going to be a very brief report in the midst of the disaster 🙂 Those who had gone through a similar project would know what I mean.
Boxes are everywhere. Dust is everywhere. We got an air purifier to help with the dust, but it can only do that much. We even have put a plastic “curtain” between the kitchen and the living/dining room, but it is still pretty dusty.
This is no wonder as we have all drywall and floor tiles removed. Those were the dirtiest jobs. We are lucky to have an industrial vacuum which is great for cleaning the worst of the construction messes.
Anyway, this is what the room looks like now.
It is an older house built in 1978. So, of course, there have been “surprises”.
When we removed the old soffits, in addition to some old electric wires that we expected to see, we had discovered a sewer gas pipe running to the roof.
At first, we thought we would realign it. But after some consultations with an engineer, we decided to have a less complicated solution. We will be sharing more details later. In the meantime, we are busy trying to be on schedule as much as we can, and do as much as we can.
Kitchen renovations – What’s next?
The plan is to have the floors and some electrical done later this week.
We got the range in, but the rest of the appliances won’t be delivered for a while. Same is with the faucet. It will only be delivered in June or July, but it is a very special one, so I am willing to wait 🙂
Once the electric wiring is done, we will have the new drywall installed, and it will look so much nicer then.
I cannot believe we technically only have two more weeks till the end of the challenge! I know our kitchen cabinets won’t be installed by then, unfortunately. But it is what it is. It is a big project, and I’ll be happy to be done with it eventually.
This is it for the update this week.
Make sure you check out other One Room Challenge participants posts on the challenge website 🙂
