Mesdames et Messieurs! Ladies and Gentlemen!
Welcome to the One Room Challenge Master Bedroom reveal!
The event hosted by Lynda of Calling It Home connects a wonderful community of talented designers and guest participants who transform one of the areas in their homes in just 6 weeks. It has been 6 crazy-busy-exciting weeks! Despite my humble doubts, I shared with you last week, I am in love with this space!  We have taken the pictures at different times of the day to show you how the room looks in different lighting conditions. If you need a reminder, you can see how it all and how it started here. Now, are you ready for the One Room Challenge Master Bedroom Renovations Reveal?
And the other side of the room:
What a transformation!
It is a completely different room now! I am in love with every single item in the room. Do you love a combination of grey and mahogany/purple shades as much as I do?! Also, I am so surprised with myself, as I have always considered myself a “silver accents” person. Now I have quite a few gold accents in the room, including our beautiful feature wall. And it all looks absolutely beautiful!
You must agree with me it does look beautiful! Do you? 🙂
Ok, take another look
and another look 🙂
Let’s take a closer look at the materials and products used in this master bedroom renovation
Lighting
This pendant was one of the first items we have purchased for these renovations. It was actually one of two items we ordered online, and we decided to keep this one. Its pretty simple industrial design has glamourous gold on the inner part which makes it glow in the dark. It spotlights the area below without being too bright and annoying, and the LED bulb allows for dimming it to the desired brightness as well! The bulb was not included with the pendant 😉
My next favourite lighting fixture in this room is this gold chandelier. I first saw its box in the store, as they did not have the chandelier on display, and it looked really intriguing. I did not want to end up missing on this one too, as I did on one of the paintings I really wanted. Thus, I made sure they had a few of these in the store, so I could go back home and review our plans. Once I decided this was what I wanted for me, I just ordered it online with the option of picking it up in the store. This way, I could be sure I could get it home on time.
It looks SO beautiful!
Though the photos don’t do its justice!
I just love it! It uses A9 halogen bulbs, and we are planning on replacing them with LED lights as well to make it more energy-efficient. LED bulbs last much longer than other types of bulbs and they also help to keep the electrical bills lower.
For my side table, I wanted to have a very simple desk lamp to balance the pendant on my side dresser. And here I got it! Lovely find from Target 🙂 They also have in gray and gold!
It is exactly what I wanted! It is the right size, the right colour and it is also an LED lamp. Oh! another cool thing about it is that you can turn it on with just an easy finger touch on the lamp base. How cool is that?
The feature wall
You could see our progress on the feature wall in the previous weekly updates. This turned to be a mind-blowing awesome focal point of the room! We had to work really hard to make it look the way it does. But It Is Totally. Worth. It! We used this paintable wallpaper.
Just to make it easier for you, here is a quick post showing how we applied the wallpaper with a short video 🙂
Headboard
We were planning to make it a DIY headboard, but browsing for some ideas in one of the furniture stores I saw one that I really liked there. Taking into consideration it was on sale, we decided to just go ahead and purchase it to save us some time for other projects. It is actually a pretty entertaining story. We had ordered the headboard in the store. However, the sales person told us it would not be delivered to us on time. So, we decided to drive to their warehouse located in another city 1-hour drive away from us.
When we had arrived there and they got the box out, we noticed it was NOT the item we wanted.
Somehow the SKU numbers on the sample in the store got misplaced and we were getting something that we did not really order. Luckily we had noticed it right on there! The employees at the warehouse were so helpful and accommodating trying to figure out what went wrong. They agreed to process the order cancellation and place a new order right away. I checked their website and found the item I was trying to get.
But I guess because it was all done on my cellphone, and the picture of the item was very small, I got the right item in the wrong material and colour.
Aaahhhhh!!!!
When they brought the box out and we opened it, it was the dark gray, polyurethane headboard. The one I wanted, was a light gray fabric cover. At that moment I felt so tired of all that waiting and waiting, and told my husband that we would just take it with us, and replace it later.
We got home, took it out of the box, placed it against the wall,
and there was it!
It meant to be there!
All that hustle had happened for a reason! This is probably not how the great designers work, but that was something that helped us to pull it all together!
Some other great finds
We found this dresser last year on Craiglist. First, we had placed it at the house entry. However, I had always had a feeling that it should have been serving a different purpose. It is now perfectly placed in the bedroom and can store my purses 🙂
The plant holder is from HomeSense. Unfortunately, I don’t even know what brand it is. I will appreciate it very much if anyone can identify it and let me know in the comments below!
My husband made the glass plaque with a heart many years ago. It has traveled with us many times 🙂 The writing is in Russian and has my name and I love you on.
A small crystal “thing”, I don’t even know what it is for. But I thought it could be a cool ring holder :). What do you think? We found it at a thrift store for $1.99!
Now,
Help yourself to coffee and a vegan chocolate cake!
So, do you see the difference now?
One Room Challenge Master Bedroom Renovations – Reveal!
I hope you liked the result as much as I do!
This project has been one of the major ones we have done inside the house. If you are like us and were able to find an older house in your dream neighbourhood, you must be feeling overwhelmed at times with all the work that needs to be done.
I know some people, especially if they have enough funds saved for the renovations, prefer to deal with them all at once. That is not a case for us.
We need to take it slow, step-by-step.
And we don’t mind doing it, as long as we love the results 🙂 We have more projects planned for the nearest future, with more DIY tutorials and great product finds.
If you are interested in getting updates on those, please jump on to our Best Friends’ list and subscribe to our newsletter. We are also working on creating a free resources library with printable checklists and resources for planning your next projects 😉
Have you checked other One Room Challenge projects yet? What is your favourite one? Please share your thoughts in the comments 🙂
